Sandra Buckley
Ambassador and Former Deputy Chair
Sandra Buckley was appointed to the AGEC Board in July 2019 and Deputy Chair in November 2020-November 2021. Sandra is CEO of Women in Super, a national networking and advocacy organisation for women employed in superannuation and the aligned financial services industry. Founded in 1994, WIS has a long history of advocating for better retirement outcomes for women. Since joining WIS in 2014 Sandra has led the strategy, advocacy, policy, research and campaign work that WIS undertakes to improve retirement outcomes for women. WIS led the campaign to ‘Save the LISC’ (LISTO) as its repeal would have impacted the superannuation balances of 1 in 2 working women. WIS’ vision is a superannuation system without gender bias and WIS works with industry, government, employers and universities to affect policy change and raise awareness of the issues facing women in gaining access to super.
Sandra represents WIS on the AIST Policy Committee, ISA Policy Working Group and Indigenous Super Working Group and is regularly asked to participate in roundtables and forums on issues relating to gender equality, women’s workforce participation and the gender super gap. This included the Senate Inquiries into Women’s Economic Security in Retirement and Gender Segregation of the Workforce. Sandra was also an advisory committee member of the seminal ‘Small Claims, Large Battles’ project undertaken by Women’s Legal Services Victoria which highlighted the legal and other issues faced by women in separation and divorce cases.
In 2018 Sandra was the recipient of a Women’s Board Leadership Program scholarship from the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet which enabled her to attend AICD’s NFP Foundations of Directorship program. In 2015 Sandra completed Leadership Victoria’s Orientation to NFP Board program.
Previously Sandra spent 18 years in relationship management roles in the investment management industry including 6 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management where she founded the London division’s Women’s Network and was a founding member of the Maternity Buddy program. Sandra holds a BA in International Business Studies & Languages from Dublin City University and has undertaken postgraduate studies in International Law and Arbitration at the Copenhagen Business School and Sports Law at King’s College, London.
