AGEC’s submission to the Joint Select Committee on Parliamentary Standards emphasises the need for developing codes of conduct for Commonwealth parliamentarians, parliamentary staff and parliamentary workplaces which set the highest standards of conduct to ensure respect, and safety from the threat of violence and sexual harassment. Supporting all recommendations of the Human Rights Commission Set the Standard Report, AGEC stresses that the new codes must be contemporary and provide transparent accountability and consequence for not meeting the code.  AGEC encouraged the Committee to consider the Westminster model and the numerous examples of codes established by other Commonwealth countries.
