Rechelle Leahy – Former Board Member
Rechelle was on the Board of AGEC from November 2012 to November 2023 representing the National Rural Women’s Coalition. A strong leader and advocate, Rechelle is a principal sector specialist on social policy issues, her passion lies with gender equality, equity and improving policy outcomes focussed on the specialised needs of rural, regional and remote (RRR) women and girls.
She provides technical advice to government, and institutions in policy and advocacy on gender equality, domestic violence, rural workforce planning and employment, and tele-communications access focussing on the needs of RRR women and girls.
Rechelle has actively built a profile advocating for rural women nationally and internationally. In 2018 and 2019 she represented civil society at the United Nations (NY) Commission for the Status of Women.
She was nominated for a Pro Bono Australia IMPACT25 Award in 2018 and 2019 recognising her work creating a positive impact for women in RRR Australia and was listed in September 2019 on the Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence 2019 for Local and Regional impact.
Rechelle’s passion is working with government on legislative reform, advocacy and research to contribute towards a better future for women and girls. She is a consummate networker and connector of people who continues to seek to be part of the national and international conversation on these matters.
