SUMMARY:International Day of the Girl Child
DESCRIPTION:“On this International Day of the Girl\, let us recommit to supporting every girl to develop her skills\, enter the workforce on equal terms and reach her full potential.” — UN Secretary-General António Guterres\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2012\, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face\, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. \n2018 theme: With Her: A Skilled GirlForce\nToday’s generation of girls are preparing to enter a world of work that is being transformed by innovation and automation. Educated and skilled workers are in great demand\, but roughly a quarter of young people – most of them female – are currently neither employed or in education or training. \nOf the 1 billion young people – including 600 million adolescent girls – that will enter the workforce in the next decade\, more than 90% of those living in developing countries will work in the informal sector\, where low or no pay\, abuse and exploitation are common. \nOn 11 October\, International Day of the Girl\, we are working alongside all girls to expand existing learning opportunities\, chart new pathways and calling on the global community to rethink how to prepare them for a successful transition into the world of work. \nUnder the theme\, With Her: A Skilled GirlForce\, International Day of the Girl will mark the beginning of a year-long effort to bring together partners and stakeholders to advocate for\, and draw attention and investments to\, the most pressing needs and opportunities for girls to attain skills for employability.

SUMMARY:World Economic Forum on Africa
DESCRIPTION:Africa’s economic outlook is positive. According to the International Monetary Fund\, almost half of the 40 fastest-growing emerging and developing countries are in Africa. Since 2016\, almost half of these countries have experienced a change in political leadership\, in most cases through democratically held elections. As a tribute to growing regional cooperation\, in March 2018 the African Union launched the African Continental Free Trade Area\, which envisions a single market expected to generate a combined GDP of more than $3.4 trillion and benefit over 1 billion people. \nWhile significant progress has been made on Africa’s political and economic transformation\, the continent continues to face significant challenges. Geopolitically\, new economic alliances are altering traditional relationships and spheres of influence. Pockets of conflict persist\, and fragility is increasingly exacerbated by climate-related environmental vulnerability. With an estimated investment gap of over $1 trillion a year to finance the Sustainable Development Goals\, the continent is also challenged to create 18 million jobs per year until 2035 to absorb youthful labour market entrants. Thus\, the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution calls for a more concerted regional dialogue and entrepreneurial and agile leadership to create pathways for shared prosperity and drive a sustainable future. \nThe programme in Cape Town\, South Africa\, aims to tackle these issues by focusing on how to scale up the transformation of regional architecture related to institutions\, infrastructure\, integration\, industrialization and innovation. Under the theme\, Shaping Inclusive Growth and Shared Futures in the Fourth Industrial Revolution\, the 28th World Economic Forum on Africa will convene more than 1\,000 regional and global leaders from politics\, business\, civil society and academia to shape regional and industry agendas in the year ahead.

SUMMARY:Leadership Series: Customer Experience Redefined with Rachel Slade
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nCustomer experience is evolving. Far from simply how well our customers are “served”\, CX now is now a key input to decision making across technology\, operations\, process flow\, customer service\, marketing and even finance and risk management. Join us in conversation with one of Australia’s most respected leaders as we explore emerging industry trends in CX and how NAB is responding to the community call to amplify the voice of the customer in the design and delivery of financial services. Please note that this event is theatre style with reserved seating for guests available on request. \nPre Work\nWe encourage all attendees to prepare for this event by thinking through the customer experience challenges and opportunities pertaining to their own organisation context\, and bringing focused questions to discuss with the speaker and other attendees. \nGoals\nThe goals of this particular Leadership Series Lunch are to educate on best practise and industry trends relating to customer experience; challenges and complexities in implementing CX strategies at the enterprise level; and CX opportunities that AI\, machine learning and big data can enable.
