The current pay gap in full time remuneration of 23% is taken from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s 2017 ‘Australia’s Gender Equality Scorecard – November 2017. The gender pay gap is caused by the significantly higher number of men in senior higher paid roles, the predominance of men in higher paying industry sectors, the effects of uninterrupted service by men on positions within salary bands and finally discrimination and bias in recruitment, selection and promotion against women generally. Therefore, to tackle the gender pay gap we need to address each of these elements separately. This campaign will focus upon demystifying the pay gap and providing Australians with the tools and knowledge to tackle the problem.
